As a pretty traditional PvE Protection Paladin, I don’t often do PvP. This past weekend being an AV weekend, I thought I’d try some battleground action. I decided that I would be best suited as a healer, so I decked on some hybrid healing gear that gave me a little more health then my standard healing gear, and in return I gave up a little bit of mana. There were quite a few healers on, so I played more of a backup healing type role.
I ended up in one of those AV matches of old. You know the ones; those that used to never end? I was in there for a good 30 minutes or so and I joined well after the match had started. At one point, I decided to put on my Raid gear and go for a ride to see if I could find a group. While riding, I came upon a Horde warrior that saw me as an easy kill.
Now, I’m not very good at PvP. All that moving around is still a bit foreign to me, but I understand the purpose of it, so I have at it - a little Holy Shield, a little Seal and Judgment of Righteousness, and a Hammer of Justice here and there. I don’t know what this warrior’s health was, but I found myself ahead of him in the race of kill or be killed. He clearly saw it too, because he ran and got a traveling NPC and his two wolves to help. I managed to start running and walking away. That and a well-timed bubble and heal, and ended up with one NPC on me which I ended up taking down. As I was walking away, I noticed the warrior sitting down for a drink and a bite to eat, so I knew that I had to get my health up quickly.
As I was drinking and eating, he showed up again. With only 75% health, we go at it again. Holy Shield, Seal and Judgment of Righteousness again, and I found myself ahead of him once more. And yet again, he felt the need to and found an NPC to help him.
I didn’t survive this time. Four people beating on you is sort of tough; but I have to tell you, I felt good being able to keep up and survive as long as I did. I may try to PvP a little bit more often. I’ve thought about doing some arena matches. Maybe I should give that a shot soon…
